The UPN/CW drama “Veronica Mars” has been cancelled and off the air for the past six years, and yet the hardcore fans still want more of the snarky and quick Veronica Mars. The show started in 2004 on UPN and got cancelled after three short seasons in 2007 on the CW. The shows fans have never given up hope for a TV revival or a feature film and in March 2013 their wish came true.
Show creator Rob Thomas and series star Kristen Bell have always pined for a feature film and in late February of last year they came up with a brilliant plan. They chose to use Kickstarter, a site that supports fan-funded projects. The project didn’t take off until March of this year. The goal of the project was to raise $2 million in 30 days. The show’s fans, nicknamed Marshmallows, made more than that in a little over 11 hours!
Thomas has stated that the more money fans fundraise, the greater the movie will be. Fans have been told they aren’t just raising money for the fun of it, they get prizes for the different amounts of money they pledge. The lowest donation to recieve a prize is $10 and with that the donor will get a PDF of the shooting script plus updates on the film. The most one can pledge is $10,000, which landed one special person a speaking role in the film!
Personally, I am VERY EXITED for this!!! I am a huge Marshmallow & KB fan!
